Back in 2008 our lives were forever changed when we lost an infant we cared for and loved dearly to SIDS. He was 15 weeks old.
What a tremendous shock and blow to his parents and everyone who loves him!
Nobody ever thinks it will happen to them or someone they know. But our family now knows it can happen to anyone. Please listen when I say, anyone.
From the time Asarias announced she was pregnant I knew for a fact that I would buy her a Snuza Hero to use with the baby to do our absolute best to reduce the risk of losing him to SIDS.
If there was something out there that could help prevent a family from losing a baby they love and cherish to this awful, sudden thing then shouldn’t every baby have 1 to wear while they sleep? YES! The answer is YES folks!
To the people that say it “overkill” or “being paranoid” or “not necessary” obviously has never held and buried their face in a blanket or shirt that belonged to a baby that was lost from SIDS just to smell their sweet scent again and again but being afraid to breath in to deep in fear of smelling their scent away. They have never felt that heaviness of loss. They have never stayed up for weeks on end asking why.
Buy 1 for your own baby, a grand baby, or any baby in your life and also too this makes an amazing baby shower gift!
It is nearly impossible to put a price tag on this kind of piece of mind.
Wait, what is a Snuza Hero?
“Snuza Hero is portable and easy-to-use movement monitor which clips onto baby’s diaper to ensure that normal movement is maintained. Hero detects even the slightest abdominal movement and will alert you if your baby’s movements are very weak or fall to less than 8 movements per minute. If no abdominal movement is detected at all for a period of 15 seconds, Hero will vibrate gently. Often this vibration is enough to rouse the baby, and Hero will revert to monitoring mode. After three vibration/rouse incidents, the Rouse Warning will alert you to the fact that your baby’s abdominal movements have stopped for 15 seconds on three occasions. If no further movement is detected for another 5 seconds, an alarm will sound to alert you. The Snuza Hero will pick up external movement it is therefore not suitable for co-sleeping babies or bed sharing. We advise that the Snuza Hero should not be used when the baby is in motion like in a car seat or a stroller.”
- small – fits onto baby’s diaper
- vibration stimulation after 15 seconds
- Rouse Warning
- audible alarm after 20 seconds
- Movement-rate Indicator to warn about weak or infrequent movement
I can tell you that Asarias and Aaron sleep better at night knowing Adam is wearing his Snuza. And I know I certainly do as well!
If you have a baby in your life please get them a Snuza to wear.
There is no 100% way to prevent SIDS.
But here are a few other ways to help prevent SIDS:
- Put a sleeping baby on his/her back
- Don’t smoke around the baby
- Firm bed, no soft toys or bedding
- Immunize your baby
- Keep your sleeping baby close, but not in your bed
- Breastfeed as long as you can
- Consider using a pacifier
- Do not overdress or overheat your baby
*I dedicate this post to all the babies that are now angels and the families who have lost a child.*
